Just as the 12th to 15th contemporary tall wood buildings are nearing completion in Milan, Italy, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is throwing its support behind this important global initiative here at home. Targeted at developers, designers, and builders with wood building projects at least 10-storeys tall, the program will offer up to $5 million to proponents and design teams that can offer safe and viable approaches to designing and constructing high rise buildings using wood and engineered wood materials.

The CWC has issued a request for an Expression of Interest (EOI) for Canadian developers, institutions, organizations and design teams willing to undertake an innovative approach to designing and building high-rise wood demonstration projects. The announcement last month of the awarding of the contract to build a contemporary, 90-foot wood building in Prince George officially launches British Columbia into the race to build the world's first wood skyscraper.

The award winning timber structure is three stories high, accessible from three streets, and has a gross area of 5,092 square metres.
